Champaign’s Rising Mompreneur

Far Left: La'Gena Saggler-Dillon

La’Gena Saddler-Dillon is a single mother who hit hard times trying to be a parent and work for minimum wage.

So, she turned to entrepreneurship and never looked back. Since she has become a true success story and an example that hard work pays off.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Saddler-Dillon has expanded from her beauty spa. She’s partnered with several other Black women to start a new brand, Studio VIP Beauty Bar, in 3,500 square feet location.

The space offers a variety of services including laser-liposuction and micro-blading/micro-shading.

Since finishing cosmetology school in 2015, Saddler-Dillon had been dreaming of Studio VIP. So much so that she gave her graduating class the beloved moniker.

Hard times came Saddler-Dillon’s way in 2019 and she lost her job. But not one to sit idle, the entrepreneur went back to school.

Saddler-Dillon travelled the world to obtain her certifications. Since our interview, she’s gone back in school again so she can give her best to her clients.

Entrepreneurship isn’t easy.

It takes hours of hard work, more than what some may be used to but it’s worth it.

Not only do you have the eyes of your peers on you, but also the eyes of your children as well. Saddler-Dillon and other entrepreneurs are teaching their children how to be business people. Their children are learning aspects of life that aren’t taught in school.

Studio VIP has a sister location in Chicago that is currently under construction. Saddler-Dillon is looking to expand and have a television show, showcasing the beauty bar made. Saddler-Dillon wants to show that, contrary to other reality shows, Black women can and do motivate.

Demanding excellence from herself, she sought out the best schools she could for furthering her expertise. [That was my biggest motivation, not letting anyone dictate how I would provide for my family] La’Gena travelled the world to gain her certifications. Since the recording of this interview, she’s back in school, still striving for excellence, so she can give her best to her clients.

Enteurpernship isn’t easy. Not that anyone tells you it is. It takes hours of hard work, more than what some may be used to but it’s worth it [I’m gonna take that same 40-50 hours a week that I put in at a corporate job, into my own business. And that’s the best decision I ever made in my life.] Not only do you have the eyes of your peers on you, but also the eyes of your children as well. [I’m teaching my son that it’s okay to be an employee, but I’m teaching him how to be an employer] La’Gena and other entrepreneurs are teaching their children how to be business people. Their children are learning aspects of life that aren’t taught in school.
